My Little Friend — Hammy

I hadn’t planned on buying him that day, but on a hot summer day, walking past women selling hamsters, he immediately caught my eye.

He was the only one who simply looked calmly at me, as if into my eyes, standing out from the rest. In that very moment, I knew I would take him home.

Without thinking twice, I bought him in a little box and quickly ran to the nearest pet store to get him a house and some treats.

During the first few days, I began learning more about how to take care of him and set up his new home. Hammy was stressed from all this and initially just hid from me, but I understood that he needed to get used to me and his new surroundings.

He adapted quite quickly, loved running around, sleeping next to me, and his favorite thing was sitting on me and washing himself. He also loved sleeping in unusual positions, which I always photographed and which made me laugh.

Everything was good. We were always together, because I work remotely and he was always by my side.

Suddenly, he became ill. Without wasting any time, we went straight to the veterinarian. After a while, there was surgery, and on a Saturday evening, he passed away in my arms.

I know I did everything I could for him, yet a part of me screams that it was never enough.

He wasn’t just a hamster for me — he was a friend, someone who was with me in every moment of my life. He was my little purpose in life.

He will always remain in my heart — my little Hammy.
