Tim — our beloved sock thief

10.04.2021 – 25.05.2025

He joined our family a year before the full-scale war began. He was born on the street under a balcony, alongside his sister. But around the tenth day of their lives, their mother abandoned them, and that same day they were bitten by rats that came out of a nearby pile of rubbish. We took them both in. Sadly, the sister didn’t survive the deep wounds, but Tim endured the fight.

At that time, we already had three cats, yet somehow we knew he was meant for us.

Tim was a lively spirit and a loving father in our large family of cats. After he joined us, our household grew with three more stray kittens — all girls — and he took care of them from an early age: grooming them, playing, and sleeping with them.

His favourite games were stealing Mum’s socks and chasing “sunbeams.” From kittenhood, he had his eyes on these treasures, and for all those years, they were his. Almost every day, we’d find missing socks in different corners of the apartment, pretend to scold him playfully for stealing, and he’d meow and dash off, as if confessing his crime. And so it went for four whole years.

And “sunbeam” — just hearing the word, he would stare at the ceiling, ready to chase the little light spots we made with a mirror.

He passed away quickly due to an inoperable pancreatic tumour with metastases. By build, he had always been thin and long-legged, so the fact that he didn’t gain weight didn’t raise any concerns, as Tim ate well and had no digestive issues. Perhaps that was our oversight — if we had paid closer attention to his thinness, we might have been able to extend his life a little.

The news of his inevitable loss came as a complete shock. We realized we could not simply let our beloved boy go, so we decided to keep him forever part of our family and home — not just in our hearts, but also physically, through a Memory Stone.

P.S. Tim, our beloved “sunbeam,” is now up on a little cloud, with all the treats, socks, and sunbeams in the world at your disposal, along with many kind, fluffy friends. Enjoy yourself, play as much as you like, and always remember: you will forever be in our hearts. We miss and love you.
